Looking for Future Trail Builders!

Future Trail Builders Press Release 2022

April 7, 2022, Edmonton, AB

‘Future Trail Builders Contest’ to launch April 11. Alberta TrailNet Society is encouraging kids to build a trail at home and enter to win a prize. The organization is also providing Trail Adventure Bingo and other fun activities for families to enjoy while exploring Alberta’s trails.

Fun for the Whole Family: Anyone can participate in the challenge and everyone who submits a photo or video will receive an official I AM A TRAIL BUILDER certificate – regardless of their age or location. With parental permission, trail creations can be posted on social media with the hashtag #iamatrailbuilder and Alberta TrailNet will share emailed entries on its social media channels.

What: Kids are invited to build a trail and email photos or a video of their creation to Alberta TrailNet. They can build it from any material they choose – LEGO® blocks, sand or dirt, or draw or paint it on paper, cardboard or anything else. Participants must choose a name and permitted uses for their trail as well as provide a brief blurb explaining their trail and building process.

Prizes: Alberta TrailNet is giving away 8 prizes of $100 each to Alberta kids with the most creative entries. Contest applicants must live in Alberta and be aged from 3 to 15. Submissions will be separated by age group and category (two-dimensional or three-dimensional trail design). Eight winners will be selected to each receive a prize of $100. An expert panel will judge the entries in four different age categories (3-6; 7-10; 11-13; 14-16).

How to Enter: Visit the Alberta TrailNet website for full contest details and to get an entry form click here.

Dates: The contest will run from April 11, 2022, to June 4, 2022, National Trails Day®. National Trails Day® is a day to recognize and celebrate the enjoyment and many benefits that our national, provincial and local recreational trails provide, including helping people connect with nature.

Why: The Future Trail Builders Contest is a way to celebrate trails and to recognize that we can all play a part in planning, building and protecting them. Alberta TrailNet invites children and parents to take this opportunity to learn about trails and trail building, and to feel more connected to the trails they use and enjoy.
